CHALLENGE YOUR THINKING!

4-DAY SEMINAR ON CRITICAL THINKING AND THE ART OF QUESTIONING

Are you interested in the art of thinking? How can you distinguish weak from strong arguments? How can you build better questions? How do you recognize problems in people’s speeches, and in your own? How can you communicate more clearly with yourself and others?

Join Leila Millon, from the Institute of Philosophical Practices (France), and her colleague Ariane Van Heijningen, from Denkplaats (Netherlands), for a 4-day seminar in English dedicated to critical thinking and philosophical practice.

This seminar will be an opportunity to exercise your thinking and challenge yourself through engaging exercises and workshops.

Together, we will:

  • Develop essential thinking skills such as argumentation, interpretation, problematization, conceptualization, and questioning.
  • Explore philosophical counseling, understand the methodology of the Institute of Philosophical Practices, and the Socratic approach, and discover what a philosophical consultation is.
  • Learn to confront the ideas of others and realize that your own speech carries meaning not only for you but also for your interlocutors.
This process will be both a cognitive and psychological challenge, but most importantly, it will be a joyful experience of thinking and a chance to discover the freedom it brings.

This seminar does not require previous philosophical training. Whether you want to begin philosophical practice or deepen your engagement with critical thinking, this seminar is for you.

In 2016, she founded Denkplaats – a consultancy firm specialized in practical philosophy and systemic interventions. At Denkplaats, Ariane trains managers and coaches in the method of 'clear thinking conversation', which she developed. Ariane describes this method in her book ‘Goedbedoeld moeilijk maken’ (Dutch title), which means that you have to act like a loving gadfly to help your interlocutor to think clearly. An essential book for coaches and anyone who has the courage to lead life-changing conversations. The book sold out within six weeks and has been nominated for Management Book of the Year 2025. Ariane also teaches at renowned institutions such as The International School of Philosophy and Comenius. She combines techniques from practical philosophy and systems theory with a healthy dose of clarity, sharpness and humor.
