OSCAR BRENIFIER:
The art of problematization

Saturday, January 27th, 2024
14h (paris time)

Presentation and demonstration of the art of problematization
During this session, Oscar Brenifier will present the art of problematization and will propose some techniques to master this skill. After a presentation, he will propose a demonstration of problematization, trough dialoguing with a few interlocutors. Others, as observers, will then have the opportunity to analyze, comment and ask questions, in order to better understand this skill.
Problematization is a part of the thinking process, and philosophically, all propositions can a priori be problematized.
The art of problematizing, is to examine the limits and flaws of a given idea, through questions and objections. This competency is based on the postulate than in philosophy or science, any idea can be problematized. This implies as well than any given idea has different possible interpretations, or that any question has different possible answers. What is problematic is what is merely possible, and not necessary.

Purpose of problematization:

- Open to new perspectives
- Practice flexibility of thinking and understanding
- Not taking ideas for granted
- Being able to recognize that our opinions are not absolutely true
- Dialoguing with others

This process also allows us to engage ourselves into other way of thinking, and to understand better other paradigms. It avoids to get stuck in our own perspectives, which is often the case, and invites to recognize that one truth is not absolute and doesn't always work.
